Trekking to El Altar Volcano 2 ,3 or 4 Days
The Altar is an extinct volcano on the Western side of Sangay National Park in Ecuador, 170 km south of Quito. Altar was active about 2 million years ago and containsa boiler open towards the West, containing a Lake of laguna yellow name.

Itinerary:
Day 1: Latacunga 2800 m – Hacienda Releche – refuge Collanes 3900m
Day 2: Collanes (3. 900 m) – Laguna Amarilla (4 480 m) – Latacunga 2800 m
Detailed Program
Day 1: Latacunga 2800 m – Hacienda Releche – refuge Collanes 3900m
We leave very early in the morning 4 H 30 am. From Latacunga heading south, on the Panamerican highway through the famous Avenue of the volcanoes. On a clear day will enjoy spectacular view of sunrise in andes. We will pass by the Ambato ciudademde and arrive to Penipe and finally to the Hacienda Releche, where we will have breakfast and get us ready to take our walk.
After breakfast, we pack our luggage, walk and provisions on the HP equipment with the help of the carriers. Once ready, begin the ascent up to the Valley of Collanes, a walk that will take us approximately 5 to 7 hours by a bridle path that the Cowboys used to graze their cattle. We will stay in the refuge de collanes, under the calderaof the volcano El Altar, from where we will enjoy spectacular views of snow-coveredpeaks. Dinner and lodging. Meals included: d:BL, C
Day 2: Collanes (3. 900 m) – Laguna Amarilla (4 480 m) – Latacunga 2800 m
Breakfast 04:30 h 00 am, will continue after rising a little more until you reach the yellow Lake in the center of the crater, more than 4 480 masl. From here we have a stunning view of the glaciers of the walls of the Altar, as well as the Valley of Collanes and the surrounding mountains this tour lasts approximately 2 to 3 hours. Along theway we will surely see the condors living in the rock walls enclosing the Valley. The vegetation of the area is a little different, varies between Andean forest populated bypolylepis, quishuar and laurel of wax; above we have the typical Andean paramo. We have lunch returning to the refuge again, enjoying a spectacular view. Return to the city of Latacunga. Meals included: d:BL
